Founded in 1919 as a non-profit corporation to provide a “safe haven” to seafarers, Seamen’s Church Institute moved into its own building in 1930 in the heart of the Newport waterfront. Seamen’s offers newly renovated accommodations in the National Register Historic building, now fully accessible for all levels. The Aloha Cafe is open to the public with breakfast and lunch menus. Also available are public laundry facilities, the Mariners Lounge, Memorial Garden, Henry H. Anderson Jr. Library for Mariners, and the quaint Chapel of the Sea. Hostal Apuntadores is in the heart of the old town and has a rooftop terrace with great views of the city. There is air conditioning and heating and the Wi-Fi is free. A café in the reception area serves breakfast and light snacks. The sightseeing buses and the airport and ferry transport pass nearby. Reportedly clean and friendly, but very basic.

Accommodation: Accommodations for up to 24 people. Dorm rooms with or without air conditioning are available and sleep maximum four persons each. Each dorm room has its own bathroom.
The Crew House St. Maarten is the newest crew house on the island of St. Maarten. It is conveniently located within five minutes from the island’s international airport and is close to the yachting center of Simpson Bay and the hottest night clubs on the island, Bliss and Tantra. Because of the high demand in the yachting season The Crew House expanded in September 2012 to a second location in the Cole Bay area close to the marina at Port de Plaisance.
Amenities include: Free Wi-Fi, Cable TV, and flat screen TVs, coin-operated washing machine and vending machines, access to private dinghy dock, onsite bar and restaurant offering crew discounts, onsite ferries to Anguilla, daily shuttle to and from Simpson Bay. Smiley’s Crew House has been in operation since 2001. It is centrally located in Cole Bay and is convenient to reach all marinas. Amenities include large living rooms, kitchens, A/C in large bedrooms, hot water showers, Wireless internet, Cable TV, secure lockers, clean linen, and laundry facilities.

Smiley’s crew house is reportedly a fantastic spot on the island. Run by the well-known Smiley and Elona, I’ve been told you can’t go wrong staying here. They do fill up quick but are happy to offer further suggestions. The owners also do crew placement and can help with day work.
